It’s on.

After weeks of speculation, the rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier finally has a date. McGregor wrote on Twitter late Wednesday night that he has accepted a January 23 date for the fight which he said he hopes takes inside the Dallas Cowboys stadium in Texas, while also hinting that his proposed boxing match with multiple-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao will follow soon after.

“I accept, Jan 23rd is on!” McGregor wrote. “My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans!

“Then Manny,” he wrote.

News of the January date comes after social media wrangling initially based around a proposed charity exhibition fight in Dublin in December and confirms a rematch between the two fighters who first met at UFC 178 in September 2014. On that occasion, McGregor was victorious by first-round TKO.

McGregor’s suggestion of Dallas as a potential host venue for the fight also comes after the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has made moves to reinstate licences to promoters to hold combat sports events in the state following restrictions placed upon the process during the coronavirus pandemic.
